Post-VPXII Rejection #4

Dear Curtis Chen:

Thank you for applying for the 2009 Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers' Workshop at UC San Diego. Your application has been carefully reviewed. We regret to inform you that you have not been selected for admission. However, the admissions panel feels that you work shows promise and says you came "very close" to being admitted. The reviewers encourage you to keep writing and to reapply in 2010.

Thank you for your interest in Clarion.

Cordially,

Tania Mayer
Program Coordinator

Well, it's more encouraging than the email I got last year, which said: "Please be aware that we received a very large number of applications. Many excellent candidates could not be offered admission. We hope that you will apply to Clarion again in the future." Of course, last year Neil Gaiman was one of the instructors, so they probably fielded even more than the usual avalanche of applications.

Before reworking my two application stories, I'll be posting them for some of my VPXII classmates to critique. So you probably won't see those rejections for at least a couple of months.

Sorry you didn't get in :(
You got a ROCKIN' rejection letter tho! Mine from CWest was the "non-encouraging" one.
I look forward to reading your stories on the board.

Thanks, and sorry to hear about your rejection. I'll think of you while drowning my sorrows tonight. ;)

Both stories are up in the yahoo group. Do your worst!
Nuts.

Well, I just thought I'd let you know that I'm going to be pimping your 512 Words or Fewer site at the Apex blog tomorrow as an example of flash fiction...if I can ever get on the site again. Argh.

You're too kind...

But I won't refuse any pimpage I can get. :)

It looks like you were able to get on the Apex blog today. W00t! SciFAIL FTW! Or something.
For a rejection letter, that's actually kinda sweet and encouraging.
